While looking for excursions to do during out Alaskan cruise, my family and I were looking for an activity that would be exciting for the teens and grandparents in our party to do together. This eagle float tour did not disappoint!
Our tour guide was Steve, he made our trip exciting and knew his way around the river making sure to point out eagle nests and telling us about the history and area in general. We also had great conversations with him about his part-time home of Barrow, Alaska.
They provided much needed rain ponchos for everyone in the group to help us stay dry and warm. I would definitely suggest everyone in your party grabs one because it will most likely rain on you while on the raft. One of our teenagers refused to wear one because it didn't go with her outfit and she got soaked from the rain.
We saw nearly 40 eagles on the float along with hawks and multiple nests and even some salmon swimming up stream. The guide does all the work for you so that you can focus on sightseeing.
After the float trip, our bus driver, Preston, took us back to Haines to a great look-out on the town so we could have lunch. All of the staff were very kind, friendly, and had great recommendations for things to do around town after the trip.

Thanks for this great and extensive review. Steve has tons of experience here on the Chilkat River and we enjoy having him on the team. I appreciate that you mentioned our staff because we really do stress teamwork with Rainbow Glacier Adventures. Preston is a real asset to our team and our drivers like to show you around Haines and give you an insider's perspective. We hope you come back some day to visit....maybe November for a stay in our Swan View cabin to experience the largest gathering of bald eagles in the world?!!!!!
