March 5 we boarded the 12:30 cruise on the Newport Hornblower. We had expected to sit on the open deck, but discovered too late that this boat did not even have a top deck! Had we known this beforehand we would not have purchased tickets. It was difficult to see, and the narration left much to be desired, especially compared to the great narration on our trip of last year. The portable yellow steps that we had to use to board were extremely narrow, steep, and dangerous. The couple that boarded before us left immediately once they saw the run down condition of this boat. We come to San Diego from Illinois every year, this ride is a highlight for us. Not this year! We disembarked after the first hour, even though we had paid for the two hour tour. We were very disappointed with this substandard tour. You should refund our ticket prices. I submitted this information to Hornblower on their "contact us" section of their website, but the have chosen not to reply to me. Hence, I am submitting this review on TripAdvisor.

We booked the two hour sightseeing cruise on a whim after seeing a deal on Groupon. Since we were only in town for two nights this was a good way for us to get a lay of the land and take in some of San Diego's sights from the water. We enjoyed the commentary from the ship's crew and learned a lot about the history of the area. The ship was large and it was easy to move around, allowing me to snap some great photos. There is also a snack bar and restroom on board. We enjoyed our experience and it was one of the highlights of our weekend. Next time we're in town we'll probably look into taking one of Hornblower's whale watching cruises.

We took this January 2019. Nice, relaxing 2 hour cruise. Stayed inside most of the time (chilly outside) and the area was quiet (carpeted) with comfy chairs at tables. Well stocked bar with friendly bartender, coffee, snacks, water. 1st cruise narrator talked way too fast (I would imagine non-native English speakers had even more difficulty understanding him!) but the 2nd half was narrated by the captain and was much better. Saw many sights, ships, but zero sea lions even though the name of the cruise includes "Sea Lion adventure". Weird that we did not hear an explanation as to why. No worries, we saw many sea lions on our own in La Jolla the next day! When we purchased the tickets by phone, the rep stressed an early boarding deadline; however we did not board for at least 30 minutes AFTER the supposed deadline. No one hit us up for tips and no souvenir photos were taken.

Thank you for sailing with us! We apologize if there was any uncertainty about this cruise. The North Bay Cruise is called the Sea Lion Adventure because of the colony of California Sea Lions living on the bait barges near Point Loma. The cruise gets you close enough to see them, that is if there are any lounging around when the cruise sails by. We do appreciate you spending part of your day on board with us and we hope to see you back soon!
