Took the two hour harbor cruise, North and South both. Our captain was very knowledgeable about the Navy ships and history of the area, so provided a nice narrative as we cruised the harbor. It was weekday afternoon, so the boat was not crowded, which was nice.

Here's a warning: if you buy your tickets online from a third party (Get Your Guide is one) you do not have a guaranteed seat on the boat--even though your ticket has a QR code, you still have to wait in line with hordes of tourists to get a boarding ticket from Hornblower. And if you are there on a weekend when Hornblower employees may have decided to sleep in or take a day off, you are screwed. We waited 40 minutes in back of a line of families discussing tour options even though they knew all we needed was a blue boarding ticket. Extremely disappointed for our out of town guests and it ruined our whole schedule for the rest of the evening. And, we weren't the only ones--there were at least 3 groups of us with those QR code tickets.

Thank you for providing us with feedback regarding your experience. We apologize for the inconvenience you experienced when checking in for your cruise. We are already working with our third-party partners to incorporate an easier check-in process for our guests with prepaid tickets. We completely understand your frustration and hope you give us another chance in the future.

Opted for the two hour cruise when visiting San Diego. This was a relaxing tour, an hour each on the north and south portions. The tour had commentary as well. The first hour included good views of the Coronado bridge and the naval docks. There were a huge number of naval ships docked and the commentary included some brief highlights and tidbits about some of the ships. We did see some sea lions basking in the sun in the second half of the tour. While the cruise through the waters was relaxing, I'd say 2 hours felt a little excessive and it was starting to get monotonous towards the end. This cruise does offer the opportunity for some good photos with the Coronado Bridge, downtown and San Diego airport in the backdrop.
