Our tour guide Madeleine was very friendly and extremely knowledgeable, and the locations were well-picked. Would definitely recommend.

This is a hard review to write because we had an enjoyable evening but I just don't feel like you get what you pay for. We met our guide in La Cantina, we were only a small group-myself and my husband, and a s conde couple. We went up to the first bar, which was empty, ordered a drink and we were introduced to the speakeasy/prohibition history - and told that this first bar isn't a speakeasy. They just guessed that it could have been but have absolutely no evidence. When it came to paying, we were reminded over and over that tips weren't included and then we weren't even given a bill! We were told to give the guide the cash and he would deal with it "for your drinks, it's about $48 dollars, including tip" Tipping may be a large part of the culture (and believe me, we tipped everywhere!) but I don't expect it to just be decided how much I will leave. Then we went to the second bar, which was amazing - and a genuine speakeasy! We were told more about the history and then conversation moved on and we had a great time. Finally, time for the third bar. Again NOT a speakeasy! And, when we arrived, no table had been reserved, we sat along the bar (which killed the evening as we couldn't speak to each other), the guide drank his complimentary glass of water and left. It was a good night, the guide was a nice guy and we enjoyed chatting to him about NYC life - but one speakeasy on a "prohibition and speakeasy" walking tour feels like you aren't getting what you pay for.

Hello and thank you for the for the feedback. Perhaps the host forgot to mention that generally it's hard to know exactly if some of those establishments were authentic Speakeasies from the Prohibtion era because they were illegal and therefore didn't leave sufficient evidence to be conclusive. Once an establishments claim it was a Speakeasy during Prohibition we do our due diligence to research it and do not claim it if there isn't sufficient records to cross reference. We could tell you it was but we do our best to stay true and honest to the history. Thank you for your understanding.

We had a great time. Madeline was full of information and enthusiasm. She made us feel welcome and told great stories. I would recommend this to anyone curious about prohibition. And the drinks were top-notch.
