South Kaibab Trail
The South Kaibab Trail is a must-hike trail in Grand Canyon National Park. It was blasted out of the Canyon's sheer walls by the National Park Service in the 1920s, and today offers a dramatic journey to amazing features like Ooh Aah Point, Cedar Ridge and Skeleton Point. On this tour our goal, which is not guaranteed as each group is unique, is Skeleton Point, where we will enjoy a picnic lunch looking down onto the Colorado River and Phantom Ranch far below us. The hike back is arduous, so be ready for a quick descent and a longer return!

Sentier Kaibab Sud

We did the Best of the Grand Canyon Tour. Our guide Betsy was so knowledgeable. One of the girls in our group rolled her ankle & Betsy was able to wrap it in a way that she was able to continue the hike. The Hermit trail was by far our favorite trail. Challenging but beautiful.

Steve made our first Grand Canyon hike memorable, enjoyable, and fantastic! His trail, history, and geological knowledge made the trip fun and educational. We would definitely do another hike with Wildland Trekking!

We found this tour on Trip Advisor and decided to book after reading so many great reviews. Most people who come to the Gand Canyon just park their car and look over the edge into the canyon. Our party of six wanted more! We settled on a moderately intense hiking tour (as described by the site). A few days prior to our adventure we were emailed by our amazing guide, Shayne, who told us what to expect and how to reach him, etc. On the day of our tour it was about 30 degrees with 30 mph winds at the top of the canyon. We dressed in layers, which I highly recommend if visiting in the winter months. Shayne met us at the meeting spot and issued us poles, backpacks and “crampons” (spikes) for our shoes. We then boarded the Canyon shuttle bus and within minutes were in South Kaibab Trail. The top was icy and the trails are only about 4 feet wide. Do not attempt as a beginner (as we were)without crampons. The views were spectacular and Shayne went at a pace that was comfortable for our group. We had some fit people in our group and some not so fit. He made it fun for all. (The park limits each tour to no more than 7 people so you are guaranteed personal attention.) We hiked for 2 miles and stopped for a great lunch of hearty chicken soup and cookies prepared by Shayne. He also took our photos whenever asked. At times the trail is intense with a 18-30 degree incline so if you are not up for a physical challenge, this may not be the trail for you. He would have taken us as far as we wanted but we were mindful that we had to walk back uphill at the end so we settled for 2 miles each way. The top of Canyon is much colder in winter than the bottom of the canyon. As you go down you will begin shedding layers of clothes. On the way up, you’ll be putting them back on. Be sure to bring a winter hat and mittens also, as well as water! You will be very happy if you book this tour with Shayne. This is something we will remember forever!
