My husband and I wanted to hike the south rim of the Grand Canyon with a guide. Internet research and reviews lead us to Wildland Trekking. We selected the south Kaibab guided hike and completed the health form that they required. I weigh 102, have degenerative disc disease, had a double lumbar disc fusion 3 years ago, as well as a fear of height. I included this information on the health history form. Within a day or two, I received an email from Wildland Trekking's health assessor. I appreciated their interest in my health and safety. They gave us several ideas to help prepare for the hike. As a result, we started a stair step (30 minute) program and weight lifting at a local fitness center, 3 times per week, for 3 months before our hike. When the day of our hike arrived, we were very prepared physically and mentally. We also appreciate the fact that there were only 5 hikers in our group. Our guide, Louie Herron, was fantastic! We were provided with backpacks, poles, snacks, and water. He also provided a healthy and wonderful lunch. Louie was very safety conscious and knowledgeable about hiking and the history of the Grand Canyon. Likewise, he provided ample opportunity for breaks along the way. We highly recommend Wildland Trekking and Louie. This hike far surpassed all expectations that we had. It was amazing!!
