This tour was the first thing we did upon arriving in Boston, and was a great way to see parts of the city and learn the history of Boston. Our tour guide was friendly and passionate about the history of Boston. Unfortunately the group we were with was too large and there were several other tours going on simultaneously in the places we visited, which put us behind schedule and caused our tour to be cut short.

We met our 18th century costumed guide at the visitor centre on Boston Common - he was engaging, informative and entertaining on the walk from Boston Common to Faneuil Hall. The guided tour only covers the first half of the Freedom Trail - if you want to do the rest (over the river and concluding at Charlestown navy yard) you have to pay for and take a second walk later the same day! This surprised me a bit, but didn't detract from the entertainment provided by the first half of the walk. We finished the walk on our own using the map provided by the tour - but it just wasn't the same without the stories from the guide. if you want to get the most I'd suggest you do both halves of the walk with a guide!

Isaiah Thomas gave a spirited Monday afternoon tour of the Freedom Trail. I enjoyed the detail of his costume right down to the feather in his tricorne hat. The tour is well worth your time to check out some of the Boston historical hot spots. Isaiah certainly keeps the tour moving and keeps the group interested with funny jokes and historical facts. Check out one of the tours.
