The Whitney Museum moved into its wonderful new setting in 2015. The areas around the Whitney--one walks through it, and then views from the roofs of it-- are rich and fascinating. My preference is to do the permanent collection first, before any special exhibits. The write-ups posted on the walls about various movements and then, specific works of art, are good. (Tip: photograph these on your phone.) The audio phone (fee) is worth it. Really wonderful are the outside areas, patios, balconies, beautiful architecturally and as spaces for sculpture. One can enjoy this museum "knowing nothing" ahead of time, and come away with an appreciation of it. I took the A train to 14th St., and then walked several interesting blocks to the Whitney.

The new Whitney was partly a disappointment for us. The atmosphere in the building is diffusing for a museum. Although the collection is worth a visit. also at the upper stages you can go outside and enjoy the surroundings of the meatpack district and the high line. For us we left the museum with very mixed feelings. The restaurant was crowded when we visit and not very hospital.
