The new museum building, situated off the 'High line' near the Hudson, is fashionably elegant. The much larger digs features the Whitney's internationally recognized contemporary art settled in the former industry meat packing district. Art work ranges from Americana themes of Hopper or Wyeth to more questionable offerings featuring abstract renderings. No simple food items for this place but a remarkable hot spot 'Untitled' resides on the lower floor featuring Spinach feta dip, littleneck clams, fried chicken salad and assorted wines. I should mention that the outdoor extensions have very cool views.

The new Whitney Museum adds to the necklace of outstanding museums found in NYC. Situated at the beginning of the HighLine and overlooking the Hudson River, the building is an architectural gem enveloping an outstanding collection displayed in large and well-lit galleries. The external stairways and balconies add to the experience by adding the spending views of the rapidly redeveloped meatpacking district on one side and the river on the other while overlooking the HighLine. A nice cafeteria and adjacent balcony provide the usual museum-priced food but steps outside offer endless choices of any of the many ethnic cuisines found in NYC.

The "Whitney" as it is referred to is the premier showcase for American Art. Ansel Adams to Dennis Hopper and Warhol everyone American is included. Brand new building much larger than old uptown location. Large open galleries and open air patios on each floor offering great views of NYC. Look for my reviews of the two Danny Myers restaurants in the museum. Untitled and Cafe .
