As a local tourism professional, I always seek opportunities to expand my knowledge of the Memphis area that I can share with my clients who visit from other parts of the country. Several of my colleagues and I attended the African American History Tour of Memphis, and I am still in awe of the amount of history that I was unaware of until today, and I've lived in Memphis for the past 3 years! We met the owner, Carolyn aka "Queen", at the Memphis Visitors Center on Riverside Drive for easy access and ample parking to leave vehicles. Our group boarded the ATOP van and the tour lasted a little more than 2 hours. The tour was rich in African American history, incorporating music, attractions, and fun Memphis facts along the way. Carolyn did a phenomenal job of describing historically significant events with such an enthusiasm that made us feel like we were actually there. This tour takes a deep dive into Memphis history and I would highly encourage locals and visitors to experience ATOP to see what you're missing, which I promise is more than you think! Thank you Carolyn for an amazing journey through history.
