Shane was excellent! Knew plenty about the island and went through the main steps of surfing such that I was able to catch a few waves! He pulled me along when I needed breaks from paddling and was super friendly during the entire session. I will find him again for my next lesson when I am back on the island, and strongly recommend him to everyone who needs at least a beginner lesson.

Shane and Iliana were DA BEST! Grew up here on Oahu and I have only ever surfed once in my whole life (more of a SUP paddle-boarder/scuba diver) and never really had a desire to surf. My mainland friend came to visit me and forced me to go with her so she found this place on TripAdvisor…and I’m so glad I did! Shane really knows his stuff! He gauged our abilities and then took us out to the rockpiles and kaiser’s in front of Hilton Hawaiian Village. He explained everything important that there was to know, provided sufficient context, and elaborated along the way, since a majority of this experience is “learn as you go”. He is an excellent instructor and I never felt like I was in danger. I trusted Shane’s judgement and intuition, since he knows these breaks and currents. Growing up, I was always told “mai huli`oe i kokua o ke kai”, which translates to “never turn your back on the ocean”. Shane is very flexible, taught at a comfortable pace, and adjusted as he saw fit. His appreciation for the sport, and the sea, reflects in his teaching style. These things combined, made our experience, as first-timers, that much more enjoyable and stress-free, especially when it got a bit rough out there. As long as you respect the ocean and follow da rules, you goin’ have one good time with dis guy! I never thought I would ever get into surfing and all my friends geev'um to me for not trying sooner, but hey…first time for everything! I will definitely drag my sista out here one day to learn the basics from him. Be prepared to paddle ‘til your arms fall off ha! Mahalo nui Shane🤙🏼

Shane and the team are some of the most welcoming and accommodating people I have ever met, and made our trip to Hawaii a lot more memorable! My friend and I went on a 2 hour private surf lesson as well as a snorkeling trip. It was our first time doing either, and we felt taken care of the entire time. I would definitely recommend anyone who's looking for an adventure guide to consider Adventures in Paradise Oahu!
