Highly recommend seeing the Grand Canyon from the air. There are a couple of helicopter tours that leave out of the Tusayan airport. Maverick is on the back side, or the second entrance coming from the town. We took a 45 minute tour which was a good amount of time for us. During check in you, and anything you will be carrying on the helicopter, are weighed. The scale reading is displayed on the computer screen, behind the counter. The company uses this information to distribute the weight on the helicopter. The helicopter seating arrangement is the pilot plus three people in the front; and four people across the back. We only had the pilot plus 5 passengers, so the two center backseat chairs were empty. Maverick says all seats have a view, but not really. Those two seats don't have an unobstructed view in any direction. However, if you're feeling anxious about it, maybe those are the seats for you. But, in my opinion, looking down is the reason seeing the Grand Canyon from the air is so amazing. You wear a 4 point harness. The helicopter rotors were stopped before we got on and off. Our pilot was okay. My impression is that he was newer to the area and didn't have much additional information outside the script. But I guess we all start somewhere. He was professional and our flight was smooth. The only stomach dip was when we flew over the rim going into the canyon for the first time. The tour we took didn't go very deeply into the canyon. It was an incredible view. After the flight we were able to take lots of pictures, and weren't rushed at all. They also sell a video of your flight.
