I'm terrified of heights. I didn't want to do it. Had no desire and it wasn't even a thought for the bucket list. But I did and I'm so glad -- it was a hoot!
Upon arrival you're put at ease by a young man full of humor, wit, and (sorry McFly) a little bit of sarcasm. I wish I could remember this young man's name but it escapes me. Anyway, he had us sign the usual waiver and release of liability, which was quick and painless.
After a slight wait for the group ahead of us, our guides for the day arrived: McFly, Wing Nut, and Ben Jammin' (pseudonyms for liability purposes of course) and fitted us with our harnesses, gloves, and helmets. After a brief tutorial we were off!
The first two lines ease you in, which is good especially for a white knuckled scaredy cat like me. After that, the lines are a bit higher and longer. Honestly, the lines are the fun and easy part--it's climbing the ladders and crossing draw bridges to platforms that was terrifying. However, the patience, expertise, and words of encouragement from McFly, Wing Nut, and Ben Jammin' pushed me onward and upward and I was able to overcome my fears (at least for the day). All three guides exhibited professionalism (albeit mixed in with some pretty hilarious personalities) and a serious attention to safety details. I always knew I was in good hands with these three and never doubted that my safety was in jeopardy.
Shout out to the photographer as well. He took some great photos and was also a hoot to be around. He had our photo CDs ready in no time! If you have a thumb drive, bring that along and he'll load the photos onto that for you too!
If you're looking for an exciting outing in Maui, I highly recommend Northshore Zipline Co. I don't know if you can request specific guides, but if you can, make sure to ask for McFly, Wing Nut, and Ben Jammin'! And for an added bonus, McFly will astound you with his historical knowledge of the area--make sure to ask him about Giggle Hill!
Thanks for a great day guys!!!
