Although the train was clean and the staff cheerful, the food was school cafeteria grade. Most disappointing - the tour guide was poor. She said very little, was inaccurate in her vocabulary, explaining how howitzers "shot down avalanches," that the glaciers were retreating because "ice just melts" and didn't say anything more about the geology, geography, native history, gold rushes or current economy.
We loved our experience on the Rocky Mountain Express and were expecting something similar, but we would have seen as much, learned more and saved several hundred dollars by packing a lunch, taking the bus and reading a guide book.
