This is a great trip where you can learn new places to visit for food. Some of the places you may not stop on your own but once you find out about them you will return and recommend to friends. We did both the South and the East Tour. I highly recommend this trip and will repeat next year for the North Shore. The east tour covers Kapa'a area and you visited a farm who takes you on a tour and explains farming including Taro. His wife served a great homemade soup. The other great thing was the visit with Chef Josselin who owns JO2. We went there for my birthday and it was wonderful and we highly recommend it. He used to be in Poipu at Josslein's Tapa's which last year was our go to place for happy hour. We were disappointed that it closed. The tour also included 3 other stops which included pizza, hamburger and a final stop at a resort which you are able to purchase a happy hour drink. I must admit the South tour was my favorite. It included a stop at Monkeypod jam (Jams & More), Kickshaws truck for a great hamburger, Makai Sushi and in same store a smoothe bar, Papalani Gelato , and a walk through a Farmer's marked In Koloa. All were great. Marta and Dan do a great job.

I had never heard of Marta Lane (I'm from UK) until an American friend of mine suggested the tour. She had met Marta through a mutual friend some time previously. As we were located on the North Shore it was appropriate for us to choose the North Shore Tour. I was excited as I'd never done anything like this before and I was especially hungry today! Marta and her husband Dan, a professional food and graphic photographer, began with a talk about their background and how their business started which was very interesting. Our first of six different venues was in Hanalei. We were offered kalua pork plus..... (I don't want to give it away) Delicious. Next was a short walk to a food truck (Trucking Delicious) for dessert-yummy cheesecake. We then travelled up from Hanalei to Princeville to Uncle Mikey's and sampled his scrumptious dried fruits. I recommend the coconut candy. (I think that is the name of it!). Then on to the superb Tiki Iniki for classic mai tais and ribs. The setting for this is fabulous and you will love the story of how the restaurant began. Michele, the owner, is Todd Rundgren's wife. I was fascinated. By the way, the mai tais are very strong and nothing like the commercial mai tais you may be used to. Beware! Then a drive to Kilauea and a fish taco at Paco's Tacos. Oh wow! Loved the sauces! Finally on to our last stop at Kilauea Bakery. I'm not giving this away but suffice it to say you will be pleasantly surprised! By now I was very full. Water was available throughout but you will need a car. A lovely afternoon starting at 1.15 and finishing around 5.15. Meeting people and chatting with them was a bonus. Totally recommend. We booked online for 10% discount.

Marta and Dan were incredible guides. They clearly built strong relationships with local farmers, food artisans and chefs. We did the East side tour and it was wonderful to start on the Kealia Farm. It was the best way to learn about how the food on Kauai is grown and what goes into growing local produce. The restaurants we went to were outstanding. My friend and I went back to one and would have visited more of them if we had the time on our trip. I highly recommend this trip to anyone who likes to eat good food and to know where the food they eat comes from.
