A quick tour of the stalls selling farm produce, both familiar and strange, in the Kapa'a open air market. Our guide Marta gathered samples of everything we were curious about and at the end sliced and diced them for us all to taste. En route we tried fresh made juice drinks - ginger and melon delicious ( or ono, if you prefer!) - and some unfamiliar varieties of lychee-like fruits. The market is only open for about an hour so this is a quick and easy experience for a family or small group who have had enough sea, sun, sand and surf for one day. Also ffesh vegetables and fruit are good for you! The local mangoes and papaya are fantastic!

We really enjoyed the tour and tastings. This is a little different than other tours we have taken since things aren't walking distance apart, but require everyone getting in their cars and following the leader. It worked though. We learned a lot, but admit to feeling that the cost of the tasting was a bit inflated. Many of the tastings were at a free farmer's market so that wasn't so great, but overall we enjoyed the afternoon.

Going to Kauai? Be sure to look into the "Tasting Kauai" food tours. We were staying in Poipu Beach so took the South Shore tour and it was a food lover's treat. Our tour guide Michelle was wonderful and very knowledgeable on the best tastes in this area. You follow her in your vehicle and stop at 6 different sites. Our tour started at a food truck in Koloa where we sampled the best kalua pork sliders imaginable. We then went to Makai Sushi where the proprietor had us sample his "gorilla" poke bowl with the freshest ahi ever. On to Papalani Gelato and oh my, if you love gelato this is for you. Off to the gourmet farmer's market at Kukuiula for kobe sliders that melted in your mouth. Michelle then took us to visit the "croissant" lady where you got to choose one of her many delicious, fresh, flaky croissants (thought I was in France), pure delight. Finally our last stop to Merriman's fish house where Chef Mark Arriola's staff treated us to the "seasonal" delight. Lasts four hours and you come away sated and satisfied. Can't wait for our next visit to try this again. A wonderful way to spend an afternoon. Mahalo!
