I try and do city bus tours in every city around the world that offers them that I visit. Most follow the same general pattern, little bit of history, little bit of local color and some good views of the city without the stress of driving. This tour company has well maintained busses and a tour route that takes between 90 min to 2 hrs to complete. A good value for your money! Our guide was filled with local color but light on history and facts, I personally prefer more history but I know that everyone is different. There were a few negatives - busses stop WAY too early for the summer at 5pm. There is a separate night tour that you can pay extra for that runs once, but even a 6 or 7pm end time when it doesn’t get dark till after 8pm would make more sense. Also, they clearly weren’t running enough busses on the weekend. Each stop had 5-10 parties that were not able to get on our bus. That’s a bummer. Overall it’s a good tour to do if it’s your first time in the city or want a different perspective, but I wouldn’t recommend using it for transportation.

Reed B Thank you for your response, we're glad to hear you enjoyed the tour. Just to clear up some information, our bus route ends at 7:00pm with the last full tour departing Stop 1 at 5:00pm. Depending on the events going on in the city, we are a great transportation method (if you're not in too much of a hurry.) But we understand that vacation time is limited. We recently visited Chicago and did the Big Bus tour. All of the tour guides are good, but one stood out. His name was Allan. I can't tell you how much Allan enhanced our (my wife and another couple) experience while we were on the bus with him. Not only was he knowledgeable, his verbal skills were animated and entertaining. It was almost like he was playing a role in a performance with hand gestures and body language. It's worth $30 bucks just to hear Allan riff. I gave him $5 and told how exceptional he was. Plus the hop on/off thing is a great way to see Chicago. Totally worth it.
