We had the whole day in Santa Monica before we flew home to Sydney that night so we decided to catch the big bus from the pier and ride the blue and red line to see Santa Monica and LA to make the most of the day. We purchased the tickets online and waited at the pick up spot. It was 11.40 and the next bus was due in 15 minutes as it came hourly to the pier. After waiting for 50 minutes and no bus we tried the app with online tracking and no buses came up on the app. We tried to call big bus and kept getting redirected to the San Francisco line and then disconnected. Finally we then tried the instant chat online and were still not able to get an answer as to when the bus was coming. After nearly an hour and a half of waiting a bus came past and stopped to tell us it was a training bus and the next bus was five minute behind. No problems. The next bus came twenty minutes later. Frustrated we asked the staff when we boarded what happened as it had been well over an hour and the bus due before this didn’t come. They advised us the bus before broke down and offered no apology. I understand that these things happen, no one can control it, but if the various contact methods were working we would have been able to find this out and not waited in the sun for nearly two hours! Once on the bus we were frustrated but the female travel guide, who mentioned she was still training, was excellent, so knowledgeable and we really enjoyed it. Then we got to the changeover stop with the red line but unfortunately it was too late for us to change as the bus we were on was the last one coming back to Santa Monica for the day. We had to wait half an hour in the back street before hoping back on the same bus to return home. I would suggest if you are making customers get off the bus and wait before it continues on, do it in a place they can venture round while they wait. Then on the route back we had a male travel guide who was also training. Unfortunately even though my husband and I advised him the microphone was on when we boarded the bus he didn’t realize the conversation he and his coworker were having about their rent and connecting the gas and their pay was beaming into all our headsets. He also had no knowledge on the way home and had to keep being corrected by his trainer. I think your guides should be trained on the buses with the learning drivers so paying customers do not suffer. Got off the bus at Santa Monica and was extremely deflated after the last day of our holiday was such a disappointment. We have used and enjoyed big bus all over the world and in NY and San Fran in the US, but this was an awful experience.

We visited Los Angeles last week as part of a multi centre tour and decided to use the Big Bus open top sightseeing tour as our way to see the city. We've used Big Bus on a number of occasions at other cities around the world and thoroughly enjoyed the recorded narrative and live guides. However, whilst we enjoyed this city tour the staff giving the live narrative need to provide more information about the sights and give less information about themselves. They also need to buy a new joke book as their humour is frankly 3rd rate. One of the guides spent more time flirting with some young girls on our bus. I feel that the frequency of the buses could have been improved upon as there’s quite a bit of hanging around waiting on the next bus when on a tight schedule.

On April 26th 2019 me and a friend decided to take the tour instead of rent a car. Pros: Routes covers a lot. BUT BELIEVE ME YOU CAN DO THE SAME ON A GREAT PRICE WITH LYFT/UBER AND YOUR FEET. With waaayyyyyy less stress! Cons: The majority of the tour guides are horrible. I spent the whole day hoping on and off buses and I can honestly say I had been in only ONE bus with a great tour guide and even greater driver. They leave a tip jar at the door of the bus because they are sooooo awesome that they know everybody will tip them. The rest of the tour guides are horrible. They don’t give us details and history about nothing they just keep joking around so the fine past. The last bus of the day, the one I took this picture of, the tour guide was flirting with someone upstairs the whole time while we were riding downstairs. We rode through Santa Monica and Venice without ANY comments. She only spoke on the stops to let us know which stop was that. The rest of the time she was flirting and we were listening to her flirting. When we arrived at the last stop before the bus goes back to Beverly Hills where it starts to the driver Goes home I tried to get off the bus. He stopped for 3 seconds, like when we stop at a stop sign and there is no cars coming, you know?! I was getting up to leave the bus with my friend and he took off driving. I said hey! He already had left the stop and started to YELLED at me in front of everybody saying “I STOPPED I STOPPED!!”. Naturally I said that I was getting up the chair he should look back to see that people were getting up to leave his bus. And he YELLED AGAIN “YOU SHOULD HAD SAID SOMETHING!”. So he had to yell because he didn’t want to wait people hoping off his bus at the end of his shift. He was driving like crazy and speeding through stops just to get to go home. GUYS BELIEVE ME YOU ARE BETTER OF WITH UBER OR LIFT. Unless of course you guys spend the whole day waiting for that ONE BUS with the one driver and tour guide that was spectacular. I wish I could post the picture of the bus driver that yelled at me here as well. I did another review on trip advisor. Because honestly we didn’t pay to be treated like that. I was very embarrassed with him yelling at me in front of the entire bus. Everybody had a shocked face! And after that I’ll never use big bus again in any part of the world. And believe me I had great experiences in Paris, Italy and other places. Since I am a flight attendant I also will make sure to tell any passanger who asks me for tips. DO NEVER USE BIG BUS! There is others hop on hop off options out there. They hire horrible people to make your whole experience bad!
