Bus tour: We checked into the main office the day before like we were suppose to. We’re told everything was fine and to be at the Alcatraz ferry 30 minutes before our departure time. We decided to do the bus tour before our Alcatraz tour considering we were told at the main office it was only 1.5 hours without getting off. Once we got to our nearest bus stop, we were told it was 2.5 hours and we would miss our Alcatraz tour if we got on AND we needed a voucher to get on the bus that was suppose to be given to me by the main office. I was never given anything. I had to ask the lady at the main office questions as she gave me no information about the tickets we bought or wasn’t given anything besides their brochure with all the bus stops. Bikes: we got to the office we’re the bike discount was given. Told us we needed to go to their main office that was out of our way. Also was never told to us. Alcatraz: we arrived at the ticket booth as we thought we were suppose to claim our tickets at the counter. Nope. We were ALSO suppose to be given those the day before when we checked in. She didn’t even give us our Alcatraz tickets! Just completely let us walk out the door with nothing in hand basically? I had called several times throughout the day to figure out the bus situation, no answer. But they actually answered when I called from the Alcatraz ferry. They had someone run to where I was and give us our tickets to get on the ferry to take our tour. Once we were given our tickets on the street of San Francisco we had to run to make the ferry on time. No one communicates very well and it all seemed completely unorganized. We only got to do the Alcatraz tour did it of everything we bought for $200.

I enjoyed the detail of the cell block tour. I considered the Big Bus as transportation... I enjoyed the “Painted Ladies” tour to REALLY see the city.

You can get packages with Big Bus which make it good value for money, I opted for Alcatraz personally. You get to see so many parts of the city and it’s a great way to see Golden Gate Bridge. The audio commentary is pretty good and quite informative. My only criticism would be on the maps provided are numbered stops, the commentary doesn’t tell you which stop you’re at so you’re constantly trying to figure out where you are. Definitely worth the money though.
