I booked in May for our trip in August and was a surprise birthday gift. I then received an e mail on the day before our trip that it was cancelled which left me very disappointed and the party quite upset. I have tried to contact Grayline but without any response or refund. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY!!!

Great way to learn about the history of sanfrancisco in a short amount of time. The combo with Alcatraz tour was terrific.

Our group of four had booked our tour in two lots not realising this would affect our Alcatraz ferry times - we found out the day before we were on ferries two hours apart and that this couldn't be changed (Big Bus sources the Alcatraz tickets through other companies and our group was with two other companies). However, on the morning of our tour, after picking up our Alcatraz tickets we were able to make enquiries at the ferry terminal and were told the two on the earlier ferry could miss their sailing and then go on standby for the later sailing which they'd be very likely to get. We were a little nervous about this but the Alcstraz ferry staff were very confident this would work so we decided to risk it. After exploring Pier 39 we decided to get on the Big Bus and do the full circuit which would drop us off at the ferry terminal for our Alcatraz sailing in perfect time (it worked well for us as we were aiming for the 3.20 pm sailing). We got great seats on the top deck and had a great tour with Charlie and Lawrence. Charlie was a great guide - so much information and a great sense of humour and we felt very safe with Lawrence behind the wheel. We didn't get off as we were on a tight timeframe but the tour covers many places we all decided we would like to return to in the future - it gives you a great taste of the sights. The timing worked well with our ferry sailing for Alcatraz (just enough time for a corn dog each and to get the two who had missed their ferry at the front of the standby line). We all got across to Alcatraz and enjoyed the free audio tour of the jailhouse. We stayed on the Rock until the 6 pm ferry which gave us a decent time to explore the jailhouse and gift shop. We didn't explore the grounds of the island extensively. We didn't do the Night Tour or Sausilito Tour due to timings - it would be a hectic day trying to fit an extra tour. A great day out!
