This was the worst experience and I’d ask for a refund if I could. Let me preface it by saying that we love history and architecture and have enjoyed similar tours in other cities — but this was very substandard. It was my son’s first visit to Boston and honestly I would have been able to tell him more myself about many of the sights we passed if we’d just used our Charlie cards to get around town. Most things we passed the driver didn’t even point out. For example, when we got to the Faneuil hall area he just said “Well this stop has Faneuil Hall and the North End with a large Italian population: Enjoy.” He did not even point out the direction of those things. Other times instead of engaging stories it was a few statistics like square miles of the city just followed every time with “How about that?” The most info we got was about the building by IM Pei. That was great but I wanted to hear much more about the things we were passing. Maybe we just had a terrible guide but it was literally the worst, most tedious experience. Also: the weather was very cold and the choice was to sit near a rolled down but plastic tarp that really obscured the view or near an open window that was freezing. We opted for the view but it was miserably cold. Also we tried to start the tour at stop 8 only to find out it was closed — no signage, had to instant message the chat. We scrambled over to stop 9 and waited more than 15 minutes, only for the first trolley to be too full to take us. We really did want to hop off to do things but from stop 8 to stop 1 really only Boston Common would have been worth stopping at — it till nearly an hour to make that trek, with a lot of time spent making multiple stops to drop off cruise guests at the seaport. Nothing the driver said at any point made the stops seem enticing or made people want to get off and see stuff. We stayed onboard because we were hungry and cold and wanted to get to the North End if at all possible. We ended up doing only half the tour, getting off to get warm, and not contnuing. Maybe our experience would have been better with a different driver who told better stories or provided more info, but based on this experience I would never recommend the tour to anyone. We would have done better using Google and our 7-day Charlie card for $22 of free transit riding and saving the money we spent on this. Very disappointed.
