We paid full price admission and discovered it was a giant bait and switch situation. Lines for the very, very few places open for tours were extremely long. In 6 hours we saw a 10 minute dressmaking demonstration and 10 minute weaving explanation. That is it. It was impossible to see governor’s mansion tour. Places were not open to at least tour on your own. Very few interpreters were out and about and many seemed uninterested in interacting with the public. This was extremely disappointing and had we known we were paying admission to literally do nothing but walk up and down the streets, we would have found something else to do with our limited vacation time. We could have gone in for free and walked up and down the streets.

Do not buy tickets to this venue right now, when the covid situation is not resolved. There is nothing to do there with the tickets unless you like to spend your day in lines to visit maybe 4-6 open facilities!!!! Everything is shut down. Walk around for FREE (yes, you will see a few dressed-up characters on streets), buy a carriage ride ticket, eat in the downtown area. Bought a ticket for a family of three (teen charged as an adult). Parked the car at the visitor center parking lot (visitor center is closed, tickets are sold outside). Found the line for the shuttle which arrived in about 10 minutes. Its driver counted like 10 people, let them in (due to covid) and left the other 30, including elderly and families with toddlers waiting. Ok, we had no desire to wait for another 20-30 min to maybe get on a suttle, walked. About 15 min, no issues BUT - if you only let 10 people on your shuttles, maybe, get more busses!!! Arrived to the Colonial Williamsburg. With tickets... ONLY 5-6 places are open, the rest is SHUT down. Plus maybe 3-4 stores. The line to the Governor's palace is 2 hours long (covid, duhh), the line to the armory 15-20 min long to hear a dude talking OUTSIDE. The line to the Capitol building - an hour. You get the idea... By the end of the day you will definitely see whatever is in these open 5-6 places. Good luck. By the way, not a single restaurant was open. Some hut with a vending machine and a big sign "Cold Drinks" also had a 10 min line. Apparently, it's due to both covid and some union related issues. Pleasant ladies next to the ticket booth on Gloucerster street kept misrepresenting the situation to unsuspecting tourists and directing them to ticket booths to get tickets. People with tickets are basically trapped inside with long lines and nothing else to do. We gave up after visiting two open sites and three stores. Please, come when the covid situation is over to enjoy everyhting this place is supposed to offer. If you must come now, don't waste your money - the site is open for walking around for free as it is a part of Williamsburg, it's not gated. The administration should just shut down the rest of the working facilities and stop pretending Colonial Williamsburg is in operation.

You can't advertise that your open to the public, and only provide 20% of the attraction for the full price of admission. It's like going to bush gardens and only the bumper cars are working. The streets are still full of tourists/ suckers, but it's not going to last long. Even what they have open today could only support 100-200 guests giving them a half decent experience. They blame it on covid, but until they expierence smaller crowds and bad reviews there not going to change anything. Less exhibits, less maintenance, and less staff.
