During our big Alaska adventure, we chose DZT in Talkeetna as our first "real" zipline adventure. I've seen others where the ride is one long run, but the fact that this was a multi-stage adventure really appealed. After a "level 0" training zip where the two guides trained us on how to hold our hands, control spinning, and how to break at the end of the zip when signaled, we proceeded to the different stages.
The guides clearly knew their stuff and maintained a safe and orderly environment throughout. And, they were both a lot of fun. Our batch consisted of myself, my two kids, and two other gentlemen for a total of five. We would move as a group through each zip. First the lead guide would hook on and go to the next platform. Next, each of us would go, one at a time. The second guide would remain on the platform with the rest and was responsible for hooking/unhooking the hardware. The harnesses had double lanyards for fall protection and we were always hooked up with at least one of them as we moved and positioned ourselves for each zip. After the last of us made it across, the second guide would come and join us.
The guides used radios to communicate with each other. The later stage zips were several hundred feet long. With the drop of the cable and arrangement of trees, we often could not see the ending platform from the start. The guides maintained full situational awareness and I felt safe and comfortable for myself and my kids throughout the adventure.
That allowed us to focus on the fun. The scenery was great, although the cloud cover that day prevented us from seeing Denali and the other mountains during the final zip over a pond. Even without the mountains, the view through the trees was great.
Overall, we had a great time and would not hesitate to go with these guys again. If your trip to Alaska gives you some time in Talkeetna, I highly recommend ziplining with these folks.
