I generally don't like guided tours but on this visit to Philadelphia I was having a problem walking so I thought a bus tour would be a good solution. It was, sort of. My enjoyment of the tour was seriously marred by the patter of the guides. I experienced three of them during the day and they all seemed to be from the same school of excessive overacting and exaggeration. My heart went out to the drivers who have to listen to that every day, all day long! While there were little nuggets of insider information dropped along the way, they didn't make up for the inanity of the chatter. In reading the other reviews I can see that I'm definitely in the minority so, as they say, YMMV (your mileage may vary).

Everything was fine until my family which came to visit and wanted to go Philadelphia on Sunday, I suggested to all of us buy this deal through groupon which was 7 bucks cheaper, at 3:30pm we decided hop off and do the tour of the Eastern State Penitentiary, the tour guide mention this was last tour and we have to be at 4:15pm back in the bus stop, so we did and and guess what happen?, the bus didn't wanted to stop and pick all us (total of 10) said we had to wait next bus, which never came 😠, we were about to pay an Uber, but instead we start calling CS tell them why the bus haven't come yet, they apologize and said there was a bus coming up for us, we wait and nothing showed up, until a bus from the competition (BIG BUS TOURS) did stop and we explain what was going on with the problem we had being stuck there, they were so kind decided to give all of us the ride for free, btw we tip them very well

I got a Groupon coupon for this tour, and thought it would be a good introduction to the city. I was right! The best of the tour guides I encountered was a very live-wire African-American woman (wish I could remember her name for you) who knew a lot about local black history and women's history and gave an outstanding tour. Next time, when I have more time, I will get a two-day pass and do a lot more hopping on and off to visit local attractions.
