Dustin did a wonderful job! He was very knowledgeable about the culture of Charleston's food and history of the city. He walked at a good pace to keep the tour moving but also make sure we all stayed together.
Charleston Culinary tours partners with a variety of restaurants in the area so you don't necessarily know which places you will go to on each tour, but unfortunately, our selection of restaurants was not the best. I say this being critical because I have been on previous food tours in a number of cities including Charleston and have had amazing experiences! So my expectations were very high and I was really hoping to be able to cross off 4 restaurants from the must-try Charleston eateries that we otherwise wouldn't have time to go to on our long weekend stay.
We met at Poogan's Smokehouse - which is not the classic Poogan's Porch - where we had pimento cheese balls, iron skillet cornbread, and pulled pork sliders. All were good, but not anything you needed to come back for. Secondly, we went to the Crab Shack where we had small samplings of hushpuppies, she-crab soup, fried green tomato, and shrimp & grits. It was a lot of food, but none of it was noteworthy and there is definitely better to be had in Charleston. Thirdly we went directly next door to the Oyster House and had an equally ok low country boil. The only outstanding stop was the last one for dessert at Kaminski's. That is the only stop worth going back to.
All and all, it was fun and we met some great people on the tour, but it wasn't as foodie-paradise as I have experienced in the past and did not meet my expectations.

We're so happy to hear that you enjoyed your tour with Dustin, but sorry to hear that we did not meet your expectations. We aim to create a comprehensive overview of traditional Lowcountry cuisine and we're sorry that this was not to your satisfaction. Thanks for taking the time to provide feedback.
