This tour is good value. Our guide Dustin is an asset to this tour group. He is a WEALTH of knowledge about the history of Charleston, the origins of the regional food, the demographics of the area. He was very engaging. The food is by no means edgy or upscale, but it gives you a taste/sampling of the regional foods like grits, fried tomatoes, cornbread, hush puppies and the like. (Yes, a bit heavy on fried items, but that is, of course, regional.) Poogan's is barbecue basically, Oyster House excellent samplings, Henry's didn't seem to put too much effort into their offerings, Kamiski's or Kaminski's for dessert was very good. Best of all, we got the lay of the land and returned to the Oyster House later and some stops that looked interesting along Dustin's tour.
