Wherever you are in the Zulu Kingdom you are no more than 3 hours from Africa’s iconic Big 5. Today, however, you shall be a whole lot closer. It is a 05h00 start. As you know wildlife, especially predators, are most active around dawn and dusk.

The Big 5 Bucketlist Safari gives you the best chance to see the Big 5 on a day tour within KwaZulu Natal. Enter into a Premier Private Game Reserve and meet your knowledgeable ranger. Listen to a briefing on game drive etiquette before you start your 3 hour morning safari.

Your ranger will track wildlife while keeping tabs on sightings throughout the reserve giving you the best chance to be in the right place at the right time. This reserve only permits travellers staying at their luxury lodges to traverse the park, unless you’re with us of course.

Time for lunch. After lunch we’re heading deeper into the reserve. Embark on another 3 hour game drive focusing on different game. At approximately 16h00 we will depart for Durban.

I don't know where to start. All in all this safari was the highlight of our trip! From the start, working with Justin the founder of Wild Routes was easy and great with communicating to us about pick up and drop off information, and was very speedy in replying when I had questions. Grant who transported us to the Amyoni reserve was a wealth of info about the region and also had great suggestions for us about other things to do for the rest of our trip. He was super courteous and very personable and started our day off right. Our game driver, Mzamo, who took us out on safari was very knowledgeable about the flora and fauna and very friendly and engaging. We did the one day big five safari and it didn't disappoint! Mzamo got us as close to the animals as he could while respecting safety. At one point we were within 3 meters of a lioness, and at another we were the just as close with a cheetah and her cubs while they were feasting on a freshly caught impala. It was amazing! We saw a wide variety of wildlife in the reserve, Giraffe, cheetah, Impala, wart hog, wilderbeast, zebra, rhino, lion, just to name a few. Just remember there is no guarantee what you'll see as this is not a zooand these are animals in the wild, but know that you will have an unforgettable experience. I highly recommend Wild Routes and it is a very good value for your hard earned money! Thank you Justin, Grant, and Mzamo for an amazing trip! We will be back again for sure.

It was a lovely experience - as a young woman travelling alone I was really worried, but everyone in this company made their best to help me feel safe to take this journey. Everyone was kind, they attended to my needs and the safari was an unique and amazing experience I will never forget. This park might be smaller than others, but this makes the guides know it better and it is truly beautiful. I can't wait to come back.

What an amazing experience! From the moment David (our driver to/from the Manyoni Private Game Reserve), picked me up at 5am the entire experience was stellar and beyond reproach. David, a consummate professional, gentleman and conversationalist who provided additional colour regarding the areas we traveled through on our way to the safari. It was fascinating to learn about the various regions and local agriculture. Then, we were delivered to Ivor who was our safari guide at the Manyoni Private Game Reserve and he too was incredibly personable, knowledgable, relaxed, and his role of safari guide was only surpassed by his love for the land, its natural inhabitants, his role in conservation and supporting wildlife for generations to come. Ivor's persistence paid-off as we were able to get up close to lions, cheetahs buffalo, many antelope including Kudu, giraffe and rhino. The entire day was a thoughtful and educational experience and I highly recommend.
