This was a great night time activity for families, or even a solo (me). Our guide would occasionally shine his spotlight ahead of us just to show us just how many fish were jumping out of the water (I got smacked in the shoulder by one). Unbelievable! Our guides, Jeremiah and Josh, took very good care of us (please take care of them when you get back to land). They had us all suited up in life jackets, went over the safety briefing and in the water right on time. The bioluminescence is cool because those jumping fish look like pixies hopping across the water. Someone must have woke up a manatee, because there was suddenly a glowing geyser in the water. One thing I would advise about the clear kayaks; while it’s an interesting novelty, I can’t recommend them. You don’t really see any bioluminescence except if you have some wake to go through, when you may see at the very tip of your own kayak (you see more of it just from your paddle going through the water). The kayaks themselves are very ungainly. They’re more like a canoe; you’ll have no foot pads to give you that extra leverage when paddling. This was especially hard as I was a solo rider in a tandem. I want to make sure you understand that is just the way the clear kayaks are made and not a reflection of the tour company. Whether day or night, if you are taking a clear kayak tour, try to get a partner. I will definitely use this same company the next time I’m in the area…in a regular kayak.
