This was MMT's 8.5 hour full day cruise of Kenai Fjords National Park and the surrounding waters. We went in early August and it was quite impressive. The boat is fairly small, so the number of people is smaller and more intimate. They provide food for lunch and some for breakfast.
The area around KFNP is very beautiful, and there's a weird mix of clear skies and fog. There are two main assets to the cruise: a look at the northwest glacier, and a great look at seabirds. The NW glacier, like all of the ones in Alaska, is shrinking alarmingly - we saw (and heard!) several spectacular calvings in half an hour. And bird nerds looking to find seabirds will not be disappointed: our tally for the day included thousands of puffins (tufted and horned), 3 murrelet species, 2 murre species, 2 auklet species, pigeon guillemot, red faced cormorant and more.
There are also a lot of other pretty glaciers and island, plus other wildlife. On our tour, there weren't many cetaceans, though we did see a few fin whales, but plenty of seal, sea lion and otter.
The MMT staff was very friendly and helpful, and one of their boat tours is a must-do if you're in Seward.
