Michael our guide met us in the cruise terminal as promised, he made us feel very welcome from the start. We had to wait for a while for the other members of the tour bus to come through but then we were off, Michael was teaching us the local dialect and making us all laugh within five minutes. Our boat was leaving port quite early in the evening so Michael decided to fo the tour backwards which meant we weren't fighting loads of people at all the attractions, he would stop the bus at various locations so that we could take photos or he would be pointing out a particular plant or fruit and explain what we were looking at and its history and uses, Michael always kept things fun but we learnt alot.
We visited the Grande Etange where we learnt a bit about the history and rainforest and got to see the monkeys, there are also some pictures there that show the deveststion after hurricane Vincent, it is amazing how the island has recovered. We also saw the rum factory that was being renovated but was still going to be operated on the old ways with the water wheel crushing the cane, all very interesting and the samples of rum very strong!
We had a lunch made up of traditional Grenadine dishes, Michael pointed out that it was equivalent to their Christmas dinner. After lunch we were off to the chocolate factory the smell was amazing and the young guide was very good at telling the story, chocolate tasting was included and it was wonderful although some was very stong, not what we are used to in the uk. Off next to the Nutmeg station where we learnt about the grading process, all the history and where it all gets exported to, the smell here was also lovely. Last stop for us was the waterfalls where we all had chance to cool off and take some great pictures.
It was a brilliant day, Michael was the best part of it, i would go back and spend another day with him tomorrow if i could. If you read this and think about booking don't hesitate its well worth it and in my opinion Grenada is by far the best island in the Caribbean, beautiful island and beautiful people.
Thank you Michael from Hazel, Rob,Rosie and Pete.
