I totally recommend this tour, as we had a lot of fun and came back with incredible pictures. We took the 7:30AM Glacier Point Wilderness Safari tour from Skagway, after arriving in the early morning from Royal Caribbean's Explorer of the Seas cruise. The tour company met us right at the end of the pier, which was super convenient. We boarded a small boat and had a ride of around 45-60 min in the open water. We then boarded a school bus which took us to an area to get equipment (life vests, paddles) for the canoe portion. After canoeing across a lake (mostly powered by outboard motor), we hiked the last quarter mile to the glacier and had plenty of time to take pictures (and drink glacier melt). For this portion, our guide was Rachel, who told us lots of interesting things about the area and the glacier. Then we did the whole thing in reverse. For the snack, they had ham sandwiches and applesauce. My wife and I are vegetarian, so we just ate the applesauce. There was a small delay as one of the boats responded to an SOS call. The seas were very rough on the way back (we were told that the other tours that day were canceled). I was fine with it, but my wife was a little freaked out by the amount that the boat was pitching. In the end, it was totally worth it and would definitely recommend this.

Six hour plus adventure in spectacular north. Cruise down amazing Lynn Canal, transfer to school bus (yes!), drive bumpy two track to camp site where fully outfitted for canoe trip up Davidson River to a gravel beach. Qrt mile hike to the base of the glacier over sand/small rocks for an up close and personal experience, then return to beach shelter for lunch break, and reverse trip to Skagway via canoe and boat. Best of the trip: great guides, very helpful and knowledgeable. Interesting details on geology of the area. We had fabulous clear sunny weather which enhanced the experience. Worst of the trip: forgettable turkey sandwiches. Pass them up and go for the granola bar!

We booked our trip through Carnival months in advance since this excursion tends to sale out. This excursion is a must do if you want to experience a Glacier up close. The boat ride is more than an hour. The Captain will stop if he or anyone spots wildlife. The ride is comfortable, but there are no restroom facilities onboard. The boat will land on the beach and you will be loaded into a school bus. After a 10 minutes ride, you will arrive at camp to gear up. After you are outfitted with your PFD and a paddle, you will take a short hike in the forest. At the end of the hike, you will get into the canoe, and paddle until you are out of shallow water. The canoe ride is about 15 minutes. Once you arrive at the beach, you will walk for about 1/4 mile to the glacier itself. We got to drink water from the glacier and see several seagull nests. Please tip the guys since they do an awesome job! By the way, if you watch the show Alone, one of the guys (Tex) may be in the show.
