The tour did not start off well from the beginning. We were supposed to be picked up at the hotel at 8:45. At 9:00 the bus still had not arrived, the hotel staff called and the driver said he was just around the corner. Once on the bus, we went to another hotel, I'm guessing to pick up more tourists, however after pulling in the lot, turning around and sitting for a few minutes we left without picking anyone up. We then headed to see statues of Elvis and B.B. King at the visitor's center. We stood around waiting to leave the visitor's center for close to an hour.
The city tour finally began, and I have to admit, the driver on this part of the tour was friendly and knowledgeable. The bus stopped and let us off at a few locations, the Peabody Hotel to view the march of the ducks, Sun Studios (outside of the building only), the Lorraine Hotel (outside only) and St. Judes. The stops were brief, but long enough to get pictures.
The next stop at 11:30, was for lunch at the Rum Boogie Cafe on Beale Street. The food was good and were not limited to just a few items, we were able to order anything from the menu with only a couple of exceptions. We enjoyed looking at the memorabilia (mostly guitars) throughout the restaurant. After eating we had time to explore Beale Street since the bus to take us to the riverboat was not picking us up until 1:30.
We arrived at the riverboat by 1:45. WE thought the river cruise started at 2:00, but found out it wasn't leaving until 2:30. The boarding process started at 2:00, but no announcement was made we just happen to see people walking toward the boat and inquired. The cruise itself was relaxing, but would have been much more enjoyable if the guide didn't feel like he had to be talking constantly. He treated the group as if we were grade school students, so much that he continually repeated the phrase 'now class...'. It might have been funny if just used once or twice, but throughout the entire cruise, it was annoying at best. To his credit, there were some interesting historical facts he shared, but the 'filler' talk took away from the experience.
We arrived back at our hotel around 4:30. I would recommend this tour for those unable to walk much, or not able to get around on their own. However, I would research to see what other options are available and use this tour only as a last resort.
