A few years ago, I took the "Harlem Jazz Tour" with Neal, of Harlem Heritage Tours. Recently, I participated in a different tour with Harlem Heritage, the "Harlem Gospel Tour". This time, Neal was joined by Toni as tour guide for the group. The two tours complimented one another, and both were excellent. Both guides were knowledgeable, good communicators, and delightful companions. They engaged participants of all ages with their stories and in sharing our surroundings. During our time together, we visited a church service where we heard gospel music, and we also walked to historic locations where gospel and jazz music was performed and made famous.
As we walked, Neal pointed out changes that are currently happening in the Harlem community. Both guides were approachable and willing to answer our questions. I highly recommend this tours for those who want a deeper understanding of New York City, American History, and the African American contribution to the culture of the world.
