This was one of the best tours I have ever taken because the tour guide, a life long resident of Harlem, not only knew the community's history, but spoke frankly about Harlem's complicated present, with new buildings, new residents and new stores and restaurants which made some of Harlem's longtime inhabitants uncomfortable. Neal Shoemaker told great stories of Harlem religious leaders, took us to a moving church service filled with great music, but also described with great passion how drug epidemics damaged the community and how changes in policing and real estate investment helped pull it out of near collapse. The honesty of his presentation, along with the many stories he hold, brought Harlem to life, an experience that was only magnified by the many people who greeted Mr Shoemaker as he walked with us down Harlem streets. I would recommend any tour with Neal Shoemaker. He is the best ambassador for today's Harlem I have ever met
