The Hearthstone is a large, beautifully restored Queen Anne Victorian Style home built in 1882 by Henry J. Rogers, Superintendent of the Appleton Paper and Pulp Mill. On September 30, 1882, Hearthstone was the first house in the world to be lit by an Edison central hydroelectric power station. The house retains many unique, genuine features, including the original Thomas Edison electroliers and light switches.

Seeing a building in pristine condition, especially the woodwork. Also, to visit a building that was 30 years a head of its time with indoor plumbing and the whole house use of electricity The docents are an amazing wealth of knowledge. I learned so much. PS - to hear an original Edison tubular phonograph was amazing. You don't hear that in Greenfield Village, Michigan.

The tour of Hearthstone was one of the best I have been on. The house is so beautiful and the Rogers who built it were so ahead of the times , walk in closets and bath off the master bedroom, and not to forget the electrification . Judi ,our tour guide was so very knowledgeable . The colors in the house are so beautiful, I want to try a couple in our historic old house as well. No wallpaper was ever used in this house. Don't miss it, it was fantastic!
