As a Kanaka of Hawaii, raised here in Hawaii many times we hear our history as a young child, and we are intrigued. As a teenager we, brush it off. As an adult we learn to embrace our roots when it is shared from our Kumu (teacher). Last night's event was not just about me enjoying the beautiful Kanoa II, but to embrace my Hawaiian History, to learn about my aina (Island). If your ever curious about the Historical Kailua Kona - Kealakekua area, the Historical Dinner Cruise to Kealakekua Bay is one to take. Aunty Maile, the historian, gives such a beautiful Historical Narration. One that will touch your heart.
The crew of the Body Glove, from the captain to the Bar Tender's to the Serves, each one of them take care of you the entire time.
My Husband and I opted to seat at the front of the boat, you have the option to join the captain in the upper deck or enjoy the seating on the sides of the bar tenders. Each table can fit up to 8 guests.
You are greeted and checked in at the Boat located off the Kailua-Kona Pier. The Check-In crew confirms with you the covid-check in before a boarding the Kanoa II. Once all the covid pre-check is completed you are presented with a complimentary drink ticket (per adult) and escorted onto the boat with your choice of seating. Once you’ve chosen your place of seating a crew member comes to be sure your comfortable and ask if they can get you anything to drink.
Juice, soft drinks, and water are complimentary through out the night.
As we start to take off from the pier, we are presented with the safety protocol in the event of an emergency. One the safety guides are completed, the tour begins. Aunty Maile, uncle Kawika, and the crew are all introduced, along with the captain.
As we sailed away from the pier, Aunty Maile begin her Narration of the Kailua-Kona Town, in between each narration, the awesome Uncle Kawika serenades us with his U’I music from local Hawaiian slack key to sweet melodies of the oldies. Through out the ride to Kealakekua Bay, dinner is served.
Well plated, and delicious variety. From a fresh green salad to, coconut infused rice, along Thai Curry Veggies, Mango Salas on a juicy, delicious BBQ and for dessert, a delectable Lilikoi Cheesecake. Once we have reached Kealakekua Bay, the sunset begins to happen. Once the sun has set, we make our journey back to the Kailua Kona Pier, and that’s when the dancing begins. This is when Uncle Kawika plays jams from the Electric Slide, Cupid Shuffle, YMCA and so much more, getting everyone out their seats and enjoying the party.
I highly recommend everyone, and anyone take the opportunity to enjoy the Majestic Tour that the Body Glove has to offer.
