My family and I went on this horse-drawn covered wagon ride in June '23. It was the lowlight of our trip to Denali. I regretted booking it and would not recommend it to anyone. The wagon ride was about 20 minutes longer than it needed to be and our tour guide was telling the exact same stories that we'd already heard on other tours. It was difficult to enjoy any of the wilderness or the horses because they were speaking the entire time. Towards the end of our ride the guide started repeating their stories all over again. I wish the stories focused more on the horses and the commands they were giving them or had some quiet time on the ride to enjoy the scenery. The backcountry dining was one of the weirdest experiences I've ever had. The food was fine (no soft drinks - only water, wine, lemonade, and iced tea), but the guides were also in charge of service and had very little experience waiting tables. We were often asked if we needed refills of dishes and drinks but they never arrived. Courses of food just randomly appeared with no rhyme or reason. I think everyone in my party went home hungry. No way this is worth $100 pp, maybe half that cost.

We picked the covered wagon because we thought it would be relaxing, BUT all the driver did was constantly yell at the horses, smack them with the reins and jerk on the horses mouths. I have had horses for 37 years and can tell you that Mav & Mick did nothing wrong and were trying hard to figure out the driver's mixed signals so that they could pull without her telling them to slow with the reins and smacking them to go with the reins. Someone should put a bit in Kai's mouth and teach her about bit leverage and pounds of pressure. If the horse asked for relief she would yank on the reigns (bit in their mouth) multiple times with 15-20 lbs of pressure on an animal so sensitive they can feel a fly land on them. Please put her back at reception. Both Kai and Linda were very pleasant with the people and the food was good.

We took the covered wagon trip with our granddaughters, ages 7 and 11, while visiting the Princess Denali Lodge in conjunction with our Alaskan cruise. Great inter-generational fun! Christy, our guide, had only been doing this about a week I think she said but she was fantastic! Kept us entertained with stories of the area and got all of us sharing our Alaskan experiences. Sophia was our driver. She did a great job getting us there and back. I wish Christy had told us how much food would be served at dinner! Everyone in our wagon sat together and ate family style. Salads, veggies, cornbread, chicken, ribs, and salmon served by Christy. Oh, and tea, soda, hot chocolate, and wine. After dinner, we got to pet our horses, Rocky and Turbo, and take pictures with them! The weather was fairly mild but the wagon is open on both ends. There are blankets on the wagon to cover up with but I would recommend dressing for warmth- you are outside in Alaska after all. The meal is served inside. A great way to enjoy the beautiful Alaskan countryside! Thank you, Christy, Sophia, Rocky, and Turbo!
