The next stop is some forested private property just outside the village. We occasionally see coastal brown bears here, so have your camera ready. This is where Srisa and I pick the wild Alaska berries you will be enjoying in your dessert at the crab feast. We also have a small garden and orchard. We enjoy talking about what it takes to survive and thrive in our remote location.

Next, it's back to the village to see our friends at the carving shed. This is your chance to watch local Tlingit master carvers craft totem poles from yellow cedar logs.

Todd and Srisa were amazing hosts. We were welcomed into their beautifully restored seaside home where we watched him take the crabs out of the seaside bin. We were able to hold them and take photos. We then rode to the village for a tour and returned for our delicious lunch of Dungeness crab and fried rice on a beautiful covered porch overlooking the ocean. We watched the tide come in and saw eagles and huge starfish and listened to the stories of the restoration of the building that Todd had done himself. It was definitely a labor of love. This experience was the type of tour that we treasure. Thanks Todd and Srisa!

What an amazing excursion for a family! Our children are ages 15, 12, 10 and they ALL loved this! They were amazed by the live crab and learned a lot about the village and local customs from Todd and Srisa. Todd engaged the kids when cooking and cleaning the crab before lunch. Both the experience and the food were INCREDIBLE. Highly recommend!

Great tour and lunch in small town of Hoonah. Met on time by Todd and Srisa. We visited the restaurant first and Todd gave us some history of how they got their start in Hoonah. After showing us the live crab, we were all about to enjoy, Todd took us for a short tour of the town. The totem pool carving was pretty awesome. Once back at restaurant Todd prepared the crabs and Srisa provided a special drink which did not disappoint. We then enjoyed the crab with a side of perfectly seasoned rice and dipping sauce. Homemade dessert was a bonus. The small size of the group (10) enhanced the experience.
