My family loved the day trip. The boat ride to the whale watching area is fun and interesting for the kids. Our tour guide, Jenn, was lovely and informative and the boat captain Sid was fun and made the ride interesting for my kids. They both made a huge effort to educate and interact with the guests and were excellent. Jenn made a special effort to come and ask questions and was clearly motivated to make sure you felt free to ask any questions. These whales are truly spectacular to see in the real - the scenery is also amazing when you in the boat with all the mountain ranges around you.
We were able to see many whales for a large part of the trip and even though you can’t get closer than 100 yards due to local rules, you get close enough to enjoy the viewing and see the whales in their natural habitat. Take binoculars for even better viewing (that’s a good suggestion for Alaska in general).
I would absolutely recommend this activity for people who enjoy being outdoors and getting a whale watching experience. We did a bear walk and did not see many bears (we loved that too) so it was great to see so many whales and for so long.
The ride to the whale location takes about 25 minutes and is not bad for sea sickness as the boat goes fast.
The salmon bake is a nice low key meal and easy to enjoy as the they have a bus to the downtown every 10-20 minutes and it’s chill. There is a small waterfall by the lunch that was a pleasant surprise.
Overall a great day and a no brainer if you looking for a fun 5 hours in Juneau. This crew of people will look after you and I recommend them with full confidence.
