The museum is very thorough, providing a timeline of the events in Laura Ingalls Wilder's life. They have authentic items from her home, and her personal belongings. It is a unique trip into the history of her books and the happenings in her lifetime. They have a gift shop and ample parking. You can walk from the modern museum building up to the wood frame house, and then either walk or drive to the stone house where they lived at one time. I would definitely recommend this destination, especially for school age kids, and their parents, and grandparents. It gives a very realistic picture of how things were in her time.

First off, don't rely on Google maps. The large white building where you need to go and buy tickets is not there and the spot where they showed the tix are sold is the former location. Don't go there unless you want to use the restroom. I did appreciate being able to have that restroom all to myself. The ladies at the Laura Ingalls Wilder Museum were very nice but I had no patience for their nonsense. There are two homes – the rock house and the farmhouse. One tour was at 10AM and the other one at 10:30AM. They repeatedly said you could not do both tours. You can't do both tours! You can't do both tours! I don’t understand why they don’t adjust the times so people can do both tours. Plus the ticket is good all day so why can’t I do the 2nd tour later? They make it sound like you have to choose one tour over the other. Very confusing. And both the tours are supposed to start in the visitor center but you need to drive to the houses??? I do not understand. Other reviewers said the tours were self guided. I wish that was an option. Furthermore, they said they had a ton of artifacts but how do you see them? Where are they? I went in the gift shop and there was a glass door where I could see artifacts in another room just a few feet away!!!!! But you can’t go in that door. They have a door to the patio but you’re not allowed to use that door. Ugh so many stupid rules. I guess you need to go in through the film room but the doors were closed. Can you just go in? No clue. So aggravating. I really would have liked to have seen the artifacts. The gift shop was ok. After buying a couple things I left and never figured out where the rock house was. The map they gave me made no sense. And you’re also not allowed to take photos of anything anywhere. There was a paved walkway to the farmhouse. Started walking up there and some lady was hogging part of the walkway with camera equipment. Further down some bikers were in the middle of the path. I was not walking through wet grass to get to the farmhouse. Turned around and left. Paid nearly $20 just to pee which honestly you can do for free at the old visitor center site.

This is such a cool place. I visited Laura Ingalls Wilders home, museum, the " rock house" that Rose Wilder built for her parents and the cemetery where they are buried. L.I. W.'s legacy is so lovingly preserved. Well worth a trip!
