Adventures on the Gorge

Meet your rafting trip leader at the departure point. You will listen to a brief orientation and get your gear (personal flotation device, helmet and paddle). Then, you will have a 30-minute ride on a school bus down to the river put-in. Your guide will go over additional instructions once you get in the raft. The trip begins with a few smaller class I-III rapids as you ease into paddling and working as a team. Then, you hit some bigger rapids rated class IV-V. About half way through the trip, your trip will pull over and eat a deli-style lunch on the shore. After lunch, you will continue downstream into the heart of the Gorge. Here you’ll go through several rapids rated class III-V. Between rapids, there is time for swimming, floating and maybe (based on water levels) jumping off of rocks. The trip ends just past the New River Gorge Bridge.

Our guide Colton was the best. Trip leader Ray Ray set the tone from the start. Safety, safety, Safety!!! Classic 2-5 rapids, great lunch, history lesson and great family time!! We had already done the upper new river family kayak trip which was great. This exceeded that experience. Water level and time of year is important. It had been raining so River level was plus three feet.

The rafting trip and company were great! It was a blast! However, I do NOT recommend booking via Viator. We booked via them, for a 9:30 4 hour raft trip. However, it was actually 11:30 and they don't have a 4 hour trip this time of year. Even though Viator sent a confirmation email. Had to scramble to rearrange the rest of the day. The rafting company tried to accommodate us getting us on a 9:30 but did not have enough room for 4. They also offered a full refund. We went on 11:30 and glad we did as that just changed the entire mood and saved the day. The company has said Viator has made this mistake several times, If you have a reservation via Viator, call the actual tour company to confirm. don't rely on Viator email like I did. I will no longer use them and just book directly. My only recommendation to Adventures on the Gorge, stop working with Viator if they are making these mistakes!

First time trying whitewater rafting and our family is up for more of this adventure sport because of our amazing raft guide and leader, KP and his fun easy going team-Peyton, ARK, Colin.KP is Definitely experienced, knowledgeable, witty, and excellent instructor to master the fast water. Thank you for such a memorable experience that will bring us back for more!
