I've been rafting more than a dozen times on rivers throughout the East, and found this trip to be my favorite of the class 3-4 river runs.
I took my teenager kids and nephews (18, 16, 16, 14), their third time rafting (prior: Nantahala and Shenandoah). They all agreed that this trip was the best!
Our guide (Thomas) was superb. He didn't speak down to the kids, but rather answered their questions, explained our runs, helped them learn more about how to read the water, and generally empowered them to feel like this was "their" trip.
(We signed up for the guide-assisted trip, leaving at 2:30 pm on a Sunday, and since there were so few people rafting at that time, we got to have the guide in our boat, which was awesome. Strongly recommend this timing to increase your chances of having a less crowded river.)
The start of the trip had heavy rain, but the trip was not cancelled, and it added greatly to the beauty of the trip to have the mist over the water.
The ONLY negative to the entire trip was the drive back from the take-out spot, when the driver (not our guide) was taking the van a bit too fast on a narrow wet mountain road. If this is the sort of thing that concerns you, perhaps mention it as you load into the van :)
We look forward to going back and doing this stretch of the river with Thomas again, and the teenagers are also planning another trip for the Upper Yough.
Was an absolutely great rafting adventure.
