Our tour guide, Zack, was knowledgeable and well-versed in the history of the Hawaiian island as well as the stars. Watching the sunset from the summit and stargazing afterwards is a once-in-a-lifetime experience. The vans used for the tour are comfortable, and the jackets and gloves provided keep you warm. The slow ascent to the top, along with multiple breaks, helps to prevent altitude sickness.

This was an amazing experience. I would highly recommend this. Mitch and Zach were the most knowledgeable guides. They explained the tour and ensured that everyone was aware of how to handle the altitude. No one in our group got sick and they provided snacks and hot chocolate. I would even do it again if on the Big Island.

This tour was spectacular. The scenery atop Mauna Kea is incredible, and the sunset was one of the most beautiful I have ever seen! The same goes for the stargazing. However it’s not just the scenery that makes this tour great, it was also our guides Mitch and Zack. Our driver, Mitch, was extremely knowledgeable and shared history/stories about the region as we made our way from Hilo to Mauna Kea. He was also very conscientious of altitude sickness and made it well known to ask for help if we needed it! During the stargazing portion both Mitch and Zack did an incredible job explaining all of the constellations - and we have some of the coolest souvenirs (astrophotography) to remember the trip by. Also, the parkas that were provided not only kept us warm but also provided a nice touch in all of our sunset/stargazing photos! If you’re thinking about booking this tour, DO IT. I promise it’s so worth it.
