I know what you’re thinking. Why would a woman who got left behind still give the tour a good rating? Keep reading and I’ll tell you why. But first, let’s start at the beginning. I did the Muir Woods + Sausalito Half-Day tour on Monday, September 27th at 10:40am. You meet the bus at a central location in Union Square. Easy peasy. From there, we drove to the Golden Gate bridge for photos. The ride to Muir Woods is bumpy. I think our bus needed shocks. We explore the woods for 90 minutes and then meet back up at the bus. The driver announces that we’re adding another passenger who got left behind during an earlier tour. The gentleman boards and we leave Muir Woods. It’s raining. The driver did not slow down. Muir Woods sits in a valley. Which meant we had to drive up and down steep, winding roads with cliffs. I understand that drivers may navigate those roads often, but the speed was nerve wracking.
We arrive in Sausalito at 2:00pm and were told to be back at the bus at 3:15pm. The driver parks near a central square with restrooms. Only four of us elected to return to San Francisco by bus. All the other passengers had booked the optional ferry. I strolled Sausalito. At 3:05pm, I walk back to the square and see the bus and our driver still parked. I duck into the restroom to tinkle before our drive back. I come out and there is no bus. I look right and left. No bus. I look at my watch and it’s 3:17pm. He didn’t even wait two minutes. Isn’t it ironic that the driver who picked up a passenger that had been left behind, he himself then leaves someone behind? Thinking quick, I pulled out my phone and search for a phone number for Gray Line San Francisco. I called. Pressed “3” for dispatch and an angel named Michael answered. I explained the situation and do you know what Michael did? He sent an Uber to the exact spot that I was standing in. Gave me the color of the car and the license plate number. No blame. No hassle. Just kindness. And guess who got a smooth, speed-limit ride back to Union Square? ME. In the end, I only deducted from the rating because of the bus driver’s speed. My suggestion for anyone considering this tour is to arrive back at the bus 5-10 minutes before time because they do not wait. Tremendous thanks to Michael in dispatch for his quick, caring action. You literally saved the day (and my trip)!
