Best trip around. We did our tour with Gondwana Tours once we were in Fairbanks. Our tour guides were Fred and Janet Vreeman. Our tour had a total of 10 people including us. The evening we arrived we stayed with Sophie Stations Suites Nd the next morning was picked up by Fred and went to breakfast at Cookie Jar Cafe, then we were taken to see the Alaska Pipelineand Chatanika then historiic gold mining region @ d had kunch at the restaurant there. Next we checked into A Taste of Alaska Lodge , unpacked and explored the property where we will be staying the week. Excellent place to see the lights. We also ate dinner at the lodge that evening. It was cloudy so we did not get to see the lights since it had been snowing.
Saturday Breakfast was served at the lodge every morning before we started out day. Then we were picked up by Fred and headed to the Visiting Reindeer Ranch. The Reindeer were very friend,y and we got 5o pet them.and went for a walk through the forest with them. After lunch we visited a organic farm and homestead. Stopped at Chatanika Roadhouse for lunch and returned to the lodge for dinner and got to watch the lights that night. Janet was watching for when the lights came out and woke everyone up that was sleeping. The lights were absolutely beautiful! The next day we visited a sled dog kennel and got to go visit the sled dogs. Since the snow was very light they took us on a ATV ride with the dogs pulling the ATV. After lunch we went to a museum
To learn history and traditional native life. After that we had a campfire at the lodge for grilling our dinner. The next two days were more museums such as a antique car museum, a fur shop and a lesson in curling. We also went to the Chena Hot springs and got to soak in them. The ice museum was awesome and very interesting to see. And of course the nights were Aurora watching. We were blessed to see the lights 3 nights and thanks to Janet we didn’t miss any days that the lights showed up which were 3 nights. We got to spend a lot of time watching them until they disappeared. Out trip was fantastic and I highly recommend you go and use Gondwana ecotours!
