See bears in their natural habitat on this 3 hour tour from Ketchikan. Take a 20 minute flight west over the inside passage to Prince of Wales Island, one of the largest Islands in the United States, and visit an official, United States Forest Service maintained bear viewing platform. Get-up close, safe, and uncrowded views of bears as they hunt for Salmon along the Dog Salmon Creek.

This was one of the best excursion ever experienced. We booked though Alaska Shore Tours. Kat @ AST was very helpful getting us on the right tours. As far as the tour itself, Drew, the Bear Guide, was awesome. The people from Seawind were very friendly. We saw at least 5 bears, eating salmon right from the rapids. I felt like I was a National Geographic photographer.

We booked Seawind at the last minute and were afraid to expect much from this experience...but they flew us to a out of the way cove and we got to experience bears fishing for salmon and interacting with each other. This was all behind a blind on a platform. I felt they were realistic in predicting bear encounters and were prepared for all eventualities. The guide knew each bear by behavior and markings. The pilots were very experienced and their support staff was professional. As a tourist, every once in a while you meet outstanding companies that do their job better than anyone else that you've worked with. I would come to these guys anytime i needed flights in SE Alaska.

The tour I booked from the cruise had gotten cancelled, so a bunch of us in the same predicament signed up last minute at the dock with Seawind Aviation, and what a stroke of luck that was! We took a comfy van to their office and arranged the group into two small aircraft. One person in our aircraft became very claustrophobic as soon as the door closed and insisted on being let out, which the pilot did very graciously with no issue at all. Once at the cove Drew our bear guide was fantastic, injecting fun in our group with antics like making us do a "bear dance", hokey but he put such a positive vibe on the tour we played along and had a great time and always felt safe. Even though he must see hundreds of tourists each season, he knew that for each of us this was likely our first time seeing the bears like this, in their element eating salmon, and he helped make the tour live up to our expectations and then some. We probably saw about 5 to 8 bears total. Highly recommended!!
