We have been to NYC many times but never gone to a show at Radio City. We were intrigued after seeing this Radio City experience advertised and did the one hour tour.
There was one other couple in our group so we pretty much had the run of the place. Our guide was a well informed lady who talked about so many of the interesting aspects of Radio City, including how in the late 1970’s, it came within a few weeks of being torn down!
The tour goes through the entire building including the amazing Art Deco men’s and women’s restrooms! There are art works throughout the building including real gold wall paper and other real gold fixtures. Even the various carpet choices are fascinating!
While we were touring, we saw a man using a sewing machine in order to replace some carpeting!
And the pinnacle of the tour took us to the areas where the Rockettes practice, as well as peaks of some of their costumes. There even was a stop to see and ask questions of a current Rockette who was wearing a Christmas costume!
If you love Art Deco, and are a history buff, give this tour a try. You will not be disappointed!
