The cruise through Resurrection Bay was gorgeous! We were very fortunate to see a pod of orcas - twice - as they aren't usually easy to find in August.
August also has rain showers frequently so bring several warm layers and rain gear. You can't see much from inside and it's stuffy in there, so its best to plan on staying outside.
We also saw puffins, otters, sea birds and a golden eagle. The landscape alone was worth the trip. Changing weather had the mountains bathed in sun or wreathed in clouds - both were spectacular.
The lunch on Fox Island was not bad. It's a buffet style with salmon, salad, rolls, potato dish, etc. Crab legs are $15 extra. There wasn't much time to do more than eat and get back to the boat. I would have liked a few more minutes to explore a little of the beach.
The captain was great; keeping us informed and moving the boat to get a better view of a distant passing orca pod.
The pass by the Bear Glacier was very interesting but a bit of a tease as the boat can't get too close to it. There were pieces of the glacier's recent icebergs in the area and the crew grabbed some little pieces to pass around the boat so we could all see the ice up close.
A pass through some towering pinnacles to see pufffin roosts was an impressive bit of boatsmanship.
All in all a great cruise and well worth it.
