I was in town for a conference and had one day to myself. I needed to make the most out of my sightseeing time. I was initially headed to the USS Midway when I came across the Trolley kiosk in Seaport Village and I thought what the heck, I could see more with the Trolley, so I went for it. I'm glad I did. I enjoyed it so much! The weather was perfect and the trolley is open air. There was a nice breeze and I never got overheated. The driver was entertaining and there was a recording of music that played whenever he needed to concentrate on driving. The trolley covered a lot of ground and was instrumental in giving me the lay of the land, and more importantly, the places I want to go back to should I ever get the opportunity.
We got to the northernmost stop, Old Town, for a pit stop and trolley change. This was perfect because I was due for a restroom break and a snack. I wandered around Old Town - kinda kitschy and a tourist trap - but fun nonetheless. Since I was at the furthest point north and there wasn't anything I was interested in seeing on the way back south to the original Seaport Village stop, I decided to catch a Lyft and head up to LaJolla to see the sea lions. I had gotten my money's worth out of the trolley ride. Great day, comfortable, and entertaining. Very efficient use of time.
I have gotten the opportunity to return to SD soon with a friend and I am most definitely doing the Trolley again as my friend has never been to SD before. Excellent experience for a first-timer (or second)!
