This company advertised “Hop On, Hop Off” but it’s more Hop On and Stay On as long as you can. Our Conductor was AMAZING, but riders are forced to get off at the Old Town stop. That’s where things go haywire as the company is completely overwhelmed whenever there are crowds (i.e. on weekends). One would think that you should be able to stay on the trolley or jump on another. Nope. We were told it would be 1/2 hour wait until the next Trolley. That’s when the ride ended for us. We did not want to wait in the hot sun (while empty trolleys were sitting, drivers waiting just a block away). Old Town Trolley Staff at the Old Town stop were very rude and condescending to us and other customers.
So as long as you only wanting to ride as far as Old Town with no guarantee that you will be able to get back on (and don’t mind being belittled by the ground staff), then it’s a fantastic way to learn about San Diego. The ground staff need to take lessons in customer service from the conductors. If the company could figure out its logistical disasters in Old Town, they would earn my extra stars.
